Remote Desktop Connection from macOS: How to Use MSTSC

Are you a Mac user looking to connect to a remote Windows computer using Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP)? Look no further! With ISL Light and Parallels Client, you can now control your remote Windows computer using an RDP session from your macOS device.

Setting Up the Connection

First, install Parallels Client from the Mac App Store. Make sure to download the correct version for your operating system, as compatibility issues may arise on M1 Processor with Big Sur and Monterey.

Once installed, open ISL Light and enter the user account information for the remote computer. Click 'Done' to proceed.

Configuring Port Forwarding

In the Port Forward section, change the Default rdp schema to `/usr/bin/open -W -n 'tuxclient:///?Command=LaunchApp&ConnType=4&Server=localhost&Port='`.

Establishing the Connection

Click on the 'Action' button next to the computer you want to connect to and select the 'Connect via.' option, then choose 'rdp://localhost:3389'. Enter the access password for the remote computer and click 'Connect'.

You will now be logged into ISL Light and able to control your remote Windows computer using RDP.

Alternative Clients

xrdp accepts connections from a variety of RDP clients, including Microsoft Remote Desktop (found on the Microsoft Store), which works on Windows, Mac OS, iOS, and Android. Many of these clients work seamlessly with xrdp, providing a graphical login to remote machines using Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol.
